South West MESS is returning to Warrnambool in 2023!

Trylon is a new offering for South West MESS 2023. A select group of experienced young electronic sound artists will be able to build and refine their sonic creation skills. This multi-day mentorship program focuses on solidifying the creative and career skills every artist needs to take their work to the world. Open to ages 16 – 25 only.

The Trylon program will run alongside our Sphere Student Intensive. In a break-out studio space at the Fletcher Jones Factory in Warrnambool, Trylon participants will have access to a curated collection of MESS instruments in studio sessions led by mentor artists and creatives from Saturday April 29 – Saturday, May 6 2023.

Trylon is a free program aimed at participants who have some experience producing electronic sound and music using hardware and/or software. Spend every day immersed in electronic sound creation, collaborative and industry mentorship guided by professional artists. Throughout the week, you’ll develop a track to be shared at a listening session with your peers and program mentors.

Trylon is suitable for young people who participated in the 2022 South West MESS Student program – this will be a great next step! Check out the video of the 2022 Student program below…

Trylon – Program Description

Trylon is a 7-day program led by MESS mentor artists. This program is aimed at people aged 16-25 and is limited to 8 participants.

Participants will have daily studio access to work individually or collaboratively to create a new track using a curated selection of instruments from the MESS collection. A mentor artist will be present in the studio each day to support and assist you as you gain a deeper understanding of electronic sound creation, meet other like-minded people from the region and develop your artistic and technical skills.

This program is aimed at people who have experience in creating electronic music and/or audio. You will need to demonstrate your interest in these areas as part of your application. Prior experience in electronic music or other forms of creative electronic audio creation is recommended for the Trylon program. This program is recommended for creators and artists; composers, performers, songwriters, beat-makers, DJ’s, producers, sound artists, etc. It is not suitable for those whose focus is more technical ie. audio operators/engineers, live audio mixing, etc.

Trylon is suitable for young people who participated in the 2022 South West MESS program.

If you’re new to electronic sound and are interested in getting involved, check out the Sphere Student Program here.
