Whether it is the therapeutic noodling of the keen amateur or the ultra-sophisticated compositions of the Sonorous commissioned artists, we feel that making music is essential to who we are. Music is an extension of the human consciousness and we encourage all music making, striving to support rigor and excellence as well as community music making and music for pleasure.

The instruments of the MESS collection and the artists who used them represent the collective memory of a utopian and future focussed artistic project that spans a century. The history of electronic music is also the history of innovation. At MESS we preserve these stories including amazing Australian stories that showcase our tendency to maverick design. By understanding our past we can move forward in more meaningful ways. Support for MESS is support for this important preservation project.

4. MESS Provides Educational Enrichment

Exposure to new ideas and forms of artistic expressions broadens perspectives and stimulates intellectual curiosity. MESS provides learning opportunities that exist outside of more formal education. We focus on inspirational teaching by professionals working in their fields of expertise. We also ensure that we have educational offerings for all ages and demographics.
