The original Mellotron was an electro-mechanical musical instrument developed in Birmingham, England in 1963, evolving from the similar Chamberlin. It was played by pressing its keys, which pushed a length of magnetic tape against a capstan, to be pulled across a playback head. The tape then retracted by a spring once the key was released. A precursor to modern sampling, its iconic sounds were heavily used in late-era Beatles and early progressive rock. The Mellotron Mini is the even smaller, lighter sister to Mellotronโs modern digital incarnation. 100 sounds are included from the original tape library from the 60s and 70s. These sounds have great fidelity and dynamics but truly retain the character of the original tapes. You can switch or blend between two banks of sound, with pitch and fine tuning options. The interface is extremely simple to use, with two high-quality TFT displays, a backlit laser cut front panel, stereo headphone jack, inputs for sustain and 2 expression pedals, and MIDI connectivity.
