Kids, Teens & Schools

MESS is for everyone – come to us or we’ll come to you! These fun and interactive sessions are designed to empower young people by introducing them to the exciting world of electronic music. Participants explore creative sound-making with synthesizers, drum machines and sequencers while connecting through shared discovery.

Kids

Playful, silly and surprising, electronic music delights kids while teaching them fundamental scientific principles. Our Mobile MESS workshops for kids aged 8–12 are taught with our mobile education kit that includes reproductions of iconic instruments. Participants are empowered to craft sounds and make beats with synthesisers, drum machines and other weird and wonderful electronic instruments – all while exploring the intersection of electronic music, STEM and creativity!

Teens

We’ve been running high-impact workshops for emerging sound makers for several years. Physical synthesis is uniquely accessible to any level of experience. Whether they’re classical musicians, sound experimenters or simply curious, every participant has the opportunity to find creative empowerment through our extraordinary collection and teaching artists.

Our flexible introductory workshop is designed to unlock students’ creative potential in electronic sound while providing opportunities for meaningful social connection.

Schools

Electronic musical instruments, not to mention electronic sound, is already a part of your students’ daily lives. Help them find the skills to express themselves in sound, whatever their perceived level of musical talent. The most thrilling part of our school workshops is seeing students who aren’t engaged by traditional music pedagogy discover a skill that they didn’t think possible.

We can adapt our workshops to all year levels and skill levels. VCE music students can extend their established compositional and instrumental skills while grade 6 classes can build confidence and social skills.

Workshops are typically between 1 and 4 hours long and can be delivered in our educational space, the MESS studio or your school.
