UK based Electronic Music Studios developed some of the earliest affordable synthesisers at the dawn of the “golden age” (60s’ and 70s’) of electronic sound and music. Machines such as the VCS-3 and Synthi AKS are legendary and have been used by artists whose work is synonymous with the development of electronic music. EMS machines utilised a pin-board matrix to interconnect the various modules of their synthesisers. This unique space-saving measure may seem strange if you’ve never used it before, and this workshop with Robin Fox will guide you through the thinking and processes behind working on these highly sought after machines. You will also learn something of the unique history of EMS and it’s deep and fundamental connection to Australian experimental music.
