Don Buchla is an enigma in the development of electronic music. His instruments embody the spirit and utopian vision of 1960s’ West-coast America and Don’s reputation as a designer and thinker sits alongside the likes of Daphne Oram, Robert Moog, Tristram Carey and other groundbreaking creators of unique electronic musical instruments. Buchla’s 100 and 200 series modular system and instruments like the Buchla Music Easel are legendary due to their unique format, design and timbre. To the uninitiated this may seem like a lot of fuss, but once you have listened and thought like Buchla, you will understand why these instruments and modules are so highly prized. Ross Healy, pivotal VicMod member and proud Buchla devotee will ferry you across this synth Rubicon.
