For our first Synth Cafe, we’re delighted to partner with Melbourne Instruments for an exclusive demo and deep dive into NINA, the world’s first fully motorized analog synthesizer. Born locally in Abbotsford, Melbourne Instruments has gained renown for solving the half-century-old problem of ‘Patch Recall’ on synthesizers.

Established in 2019, Melbourne Instruments operates out of a humble office right here in Abbotsford, Melbourne. Originally a founding team of just 4, the company has doubled in size over the past 12 months following the release of their first product, a polyphonic analog synthesizer called NINA. The team brings together a diverse range of skills & experience across music, design and disruptive technologies, with a view to creating musical instruments & equipment that combine the best of classic analog sound with the latest digital & design advances. Melbourne Instruments’ NINA is the perfect example of how modern technology has been used to solve the 50 year problem of ‘Patch Recall’ on synthesizers. Synth Cafe is our monthly event series, especially for MESS Members. Designed to foster community and deepen your connection with electronic sound, these Saturday morning gatherings will offer a relaxed setting where you can grab a coffee and get to know other people in the community. Events will be centered around a unique blend of activities, whether it's an artist talk, an in-depth demo of a groundbreaking new instrument, hands-on workshops, or a deep dive into particular treasures from the MESS collection.

We’re looking forward to making your weekends resonate with the art and science of sound and friends!
